Overview
An interactive, immersive, multimedia artwork that transports visitors into a surreal, otherworldly environment.
Concept
The ArtRemains Collective proposes the creation of an interactive, multimedia artwork that transports visitors into a surreal, otherworldly environment, where AI technology, projected animation, sculpture, and collage converge. The work invites viewers to question humanity's impact on the environment, drawing parallels between the consumption-driven attitudes behind the climate crisis and the rapid, headlong embrace of AI technology.
The title Intelligence Plastique merges the concepts of synthetic intelligence and artificial materials, reflecting the growing entanglement of human-made technologies with our physical and ideological worlds. Plastique evokes the malleable, disposable nature of both technology and the environment—highlighting how human actions, in the rush for convenience and progress, have shaped both the natural world and digital landscapes unsustainably.
Gallery Experience
Visitors entering the gallery will find themselves transformed into giants walking above clouds, looking down at ever-shifting landscapes. Using video projections from Ryan Kelln's Experimance series, AI-generated aerial views of imaginary landscapes will evoke themes of climate change, ecological degradation, and AI. Sculptural elements such as foam-modeled mountains and valleys will create a dynamic, tactile topography.
Atmospheric Elements
Swirling clouds produced by fog machines will enhance the surreal atmosphere, distorting projected cities and emphasizing the instability of natural and digital environments. Life-sized figures—realistic, abstract, or monstrous—printed in vinyl collage and painted works will populate the gallery walls. These figures mirror the destructive forces humans exert on the world, prompting visitors to reflect on their own roles in shaping our fragile ecosystems.
Critical Reflection
By confronting visitors with the consequences of unchecked technological progress and ecological degradation, Intelligence Plastique raises critical questions about humanity's future and the ethics of innovation.
